If you come up with some unique and clever ways to use your FireBUGS™,
please let us know!
1. Battery has been installed, but FireBUGS™ light doesn’t
work. What am I doing wrong?
- If FireBUGS™ locator light doesn’t come on when you tightly
cup your hands around the FireBUGS™ light (keeping light out), then
go into a dark room. FireBUGS™ light will light up only in darkness.
- The unit must be on and is activated by the ON/OFF switch under the small
dome on the front side of the FireBUGS™ light. By pushing on the dome,
you will feel a light click when the button is depressed. Go into a dark environment
to check ON/OFF status.
- Battery may be installed incorrectly. The (+) side of the battery must
face out against the small battery lead with (+) stamped on it.
- The protective film must be removed before placement under that (+) battery
lead on back.
- Check to make sure (+) battery lead is contacting battery. If additional
pressure of the lead onto the battery is needed, slightly bend the lead to
improve contact.
- Try another battery in the rare event the battery is defective.
2. The alligator clip does not fit through the hole on the FireBUGS™
light's outer housing. How can I make this easier?
- The tight fit was made to prevent easy rotation between the FireBUGS™
light and the alligator clip. If fit was too loose, FireBUGS™ light
could rotate out of initial position and compromise its purpose. Rotate the
clip while pushing it into the hole on the housing. Once inserted, be sure
the housing is tightly closed to prevent water leakage.
3. Will the rain adversely affect the FireBUGS™ lighting system?
- FireBUGS™ locator lights are water resistant, not waterproof. The
electronic components have been coated with a clear silicone sealer. If FireBUGS™
lights are exposed to rain or large temperature swings, water or condensation
could collect inside the housing. Periodically look into the case. Tests have
shown that they will operate with water in the housing, but it is strongly
recommended that you open the case and dry the components with a soft towel
or blow on the printed circuit board. When dry, carefully re-assemble.
4. How do I know when the batteries need replacement?
- LED starts to get dim. The FireBUGS™ lighting system is guaranteed
to burn for 2-weeks, but our tests have shown a burn time of 3-weeks+ if used
outside with normal daylight and nighttime conditions. The biggest variable
will be the number of hours of darkness or the amount of dense shade in your
area.
5. Will FireBUGS™ locator lights work in extremely cold conditions?
- We have seen little, if any, reduction in burn time due to extremely cold
temperatures. The winter proving ground has been Minnesota.
6. When I use the pull-out pin and stick them in a tree, I come back
the next day and some have fallen to the ground. What did I do wrong?
- We have had the same experiences and discovered it was a curious squirrel!
He batted it around until it fell to the ground. You might even look for some
teeth marks on the housing. Fortunately, FireBUGS™ lights don’t
taste good. Apparently he doesn’t like you messing with his turf!
- The wood might be too hard and the pin doesn’t go into the bark or
wood quite far enough.
- In these cases, insert the alligator clip into the FireBUGS™ light
and clip to a small, elevated branch.
